point of scent

Point-of-Scent

Perfect for when you want to deliver scents to individuals or series of individuals, whether via a billboard or display. PoS delivers a dry whiff of fragrance or flavour and can be triggered by light, motion, proximity-sensors, push buttons or facial recognition solutions.

Research by the Sense of Smell Institute, NY indicates that while people’s visual recall of images sinks to about 50% after only three months, they recall smells with a 65% accuracy after an entire year.

A study carried out at the Rockefeller University, NY shows that in the short term we remember just 1% of what we touch, 2% of what we hear, 5% of what we see, 15% of what we taste and 35% of what we smell.

As such, there is no better way to increase engagement, buy-in and recall than by offering consumers the opportunity to smell a product as well as see it.

When US mobile carriers premiered a handset named after a piece of confectionery, points of sale and experiential events surrounding the launch were scented with chocolate to help define an identity for the device and create a multisensory experience around it, whilst also amplifying the targeted visual merchandising. The launch was lauded by both the brand and carriers as one of their most successful ever.
